Regenerative Orthopedics

Internship position: interaction between lipid nanoparticles and decellularized matrix of the intervertebral disc

We have an internship position available for a UU GSLS MSc student for their MSc research internship (6 to 9 months) for the NC-CHOICE project. In this research project, we aim to study the interaction between Lipid Nanoparticles (LNPs) and the extracellular matrix of the intervertebral disc (IVD) with the focus on the formation of biomolecular corona. We will also evaluate the effect of dNCM on the transfection efficiency of LNPs in healthy and degenerate conditions. Finaly, you will employ a magnetic separation method to identify which protein adsorb to the LNPs’ surface.

Used methods:

  • Cell culture techniques
  • LNPs preparation (microfluidic system NanoAssemblr)
  • LNPs characterization techniques (DLS, ELS, RiboGreen and Cholesterol Assay)
  • Confocal microscopy
  • Biochemical assays

Supervisor: dr. Aida Moreira

Preferred start date: to be discussed

Duration: 6-9 months

Suitable for students enrolled in: Bio Inspired Innovation (BII), Drug Innovation (DI), Regenerative Medicine and Technology (RMT),
