Regenerative Orthopedics

Internship position: differentiation of iPSC-lines combined with naturally-derived matrices

Project description: we have a position for a project that builds upon the outcomes of the iPSpine project. This project focused on combining iPSC-technology together with instructive biomaterials to promote regeneration of the intervertebral disc as advanced treatment for human and dog patients suffering from lower back pain.

For this internship project, you will mainly work with iPSCs, intervertebral disc tissue/cells, and biomatrices. The aim is to compare the differentiation capacity of iPSC-lines derived of different tissue sources when combined with naturally-derived matrices from the disc.

You will experience:

  • Cell and/or tissue culture
  • Histological techniques (tissue processing, sectioning, biochemical stainings and immunohistochemistry)
  • Biochemical assays and PCR
  • (Confocal) microscopy

Supervisor: Lisanne Laagland

Starting date: to be discussed; from April 2025

Duration: at least 6 to 12 months months

Eligibility: students enrolled at the GSLS at Utrecht University studying Veterinary Medicine (Master HP), Regenerative Medicine and Technology (RMT), Cancer, Stem Cells And Developmental Biology (CSBD), Molecular and Cellular Life Sciences (MCLS), or Infection & Immunology (I&I).
