PhD Thesis
Femke obtained her Master degree in 2005 in Veterinary Medicine from the Utrecht University. She completed her PhD in 2011 at the dept. of Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery at the Erasmus MC, Rotterdam under Prof. Steven Hovius, Prof. Gerjo van Osch and Prof. Stefan Hofer focusing on vascularization of regenerated adipose tissue contructs. From 2010-2011 she worked as a surgical intern at the dept. of Clinical Sciences of Companion Animals, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine at the Utrecht University (UU), followed by a surgical residency from 2011-2015. After completion of her surgical residency she worked from 2015-2017 in a private veterinary referral center (Dordrecht, The Netherlands). During her last year as surgical resident and while she worked at a private veterinary referral center, she also worked as a postdoctoral researcher at the dept. of Clinical Sciences of Companion Animals (UU) in collaboration with dr. Y. Bastiaansen-Jenniskens (dept. Orthopedics, Erasmus MC, Rotterdam) focusing on tissue engineering of adipose-tissue derived stem cell sheets for tissue repair. In 2017 she became part of the Veterinary Surgical Team (UU) under Prof. Björn Meij. In 2021, she joined the Regenerative Orthopedics group as Scientific Project & Research Manager. Here, she supports Prof. Marianna Tryfonidou with her tasks as coordinator for the 3DHIP project which focuses on the development of a novel personalized 3D-printed titanium shelf implant to increase femoral head coverage and decrease laxity of the dysplastic hip joint in young dogs.
